PP2 Rating and ranks
Pro Pilkki 2 has no ranking system of its own, so this results service calculates one from competition results. The rank is shown on each player's career page. This is the results service's own calculation, not an official in-game ranking.
Ranks
A player's rank is based on their PP2 Rating. Everyone starts at 1000.
| Icon | Rank | Rating | Extra requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Legend | 1275 or more | At least 50 competitions | |
| Master | 1165 or more | At least 50 competitions | |
| Elite | 1120 or more | At least 10 competitions | |
| Excellent | 1085 or more | At least 10 competitions | |
| Experienced | 1050 or more | At least 10 competitions | |
| Advanced | 1015 or more | At least 10 competitions | |
| Amateur | 980 or more | At least 10 competitions | |
| Novice | 930 or more | At least 10 competitions | |
| Rookie | below 930 | At least 10 competitions |
- Fewer than 10 competitions: the player gets no rank but is shown as "Provisional", because the rating is still uncertain.
- Master and Legend require at least 50 competitions in addition to the rating. If the rating is high enough but there are fewer competitions, the player's rank is one class lower.
How PP2 Rating is calculated
The calculation is Elo-style, the same principle as in chess: a result is worth more the stronger the opponents it was achieved against.
- Competitions. The results of all seasons are included: the maps of PP2 League and other series, the playoffs, and the Finnish Championship groups and final. One competition is one result list, for example one map.
- Order. Competitions are processed by date and time. Every player starts at a rating of 1000.
- Comparison. Each player is compared with all the other players in the competition. The rating tells what placing is expected, and the actual placing is compared with it. An equal result is a draw.
- Change. The rating rises if the player places better than expected and falls if worse. The size of the change is 32 × (actual − expected). In a player's first 10 competitions the factor is 64, so that the rating settles faster. The change is rounded to a whole number.
- Competition size. Competitions with fewer than 4 players are not counted. In small competitions the change is only a share of the full one:
- 4–5 players: 40 % of the change
- 6–9 players: 75 % of the change
- 10 or more players: 100 % of the change
What is not used
- The size of the catch does not affect the rating as such, only the placing in the competition. The same catch is a draw.
- Team results (match points and league tables) are not used, only the player's own performance.
- A 0 g result and a disqualified run do not affect the rating at all: they neither lower nor raise anyone's rating. This way a host standing at the weigh-in, or someone who left the competition without a catch, does not lose rating.
- The rank does not expire: not playing does not lower the rating.
Frequently asked questions
Why am I shown as "Provisional"?
A rank is given only when the player has at least 10 competitions in the results service.
Why is no rank shown at all?
Players are identified by nickname, and letter case, the roles (C), (A) and (K) and diacritics do not matter. If a nickname has changed, the new name counts as a new player in the calculation.
When does the rank update?
The rank is recalculated every time the administrators publish the site. A new result therefore shows only after publishing.
